General Skilled Migration

If you have skills and work experience of have completed 2 years of study in Australia then you may be eligible for permanent residency of Australia through the General Skilled Migration (GSM) programme.
The GSM programme is for people who are not sponsored by an employer and who have skills in particular occupations that are needed in Australia.
Applicants must be:
- over 18 and under 45 years of age
- have good English language ability; and
- recent skilled work experience or a recently completed eligible Australian qualification
Applicants must also have skills and qualifications in an occupation that is listed on DIAC’s Skilled Occupation List (SOL).
The most common visa subclasses under the GSM programme are as follows:
- Skilled - Independent (Residence) visa (subclass 885): for people who have studied in Australia
- Skilled - Independent (Migrant) visa (subclass 175): for people with recent work experience
- Skilled - Sponsored (Residence) visa (subclass 886): for people who have studied in Australia and have a suitable sponsor
- Skilled - Sponsored (Migrant) visa (subclass 176): for people with recent work experience and a suitable sponsor
- Skilled - Graduate (Temporary) visa (subclass 485): for people who have studied in Australia but need to attain additional points to meet the subclass 885 pass mark
- Skilled - Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa subclass 487): a path way to permanent residency
